One of the things you cannot compromise on is the cut. If I can give you one solid piece of advice it would be that you should always go for a ideal cut diamond. This is what gives te diamond it's sparkle and brilliance.
2. After you have selected your diamond the next step is to select the setting. It helps to know your girlfriend's taste in jewelry so that you would know whether to buy a white gold, platinum, yellow gold setting or if you should get a 3 stone band or a solitaire band.

3. The final part of designing your own engagement ring is making sure that you buy the right diamond and setting from a reputable company at the right price and the diamond has to be certified. They then issue the diamond with a certificate which adds value and reassurance to the buyer.
